Well, it has been a little less than five months since I started at Cleary University as the new director of communications and community relations. It has been a great experience for me so far and I am very excited to start this new blogging venture. I've done blogs off-and-on for almost 10 years (wow, that dates me!) going back to a blog I had set up for a traveling class I oversaw as a grad assistant back at the University of Southern California.
Through this blog, I will be chronicling my daily professional life while adding in bits and pieces of useful resources for PR professionals. If I had a penny for every time someone asked me throughout my career what exactly a communications person is and/or what they do, I would have been able to retire a long time ago. ;) In fact, while I was in graduate school, my parents had no idea what PR actually was...they thought I was working towards a degree in advertising. It didn't take my parents long to catch on--thankfully--but I hear (loud and clear!) the frustrations of colleagues in my field whose bosses don't really know the purpose of their job. Again, counting my blessings, that is not the case here at Cleary, but it certainly has been for me in the past.
Hopefully this will give you an insight into my world and those in the communications profession...particularly in higher ed.
