Today flew by! I got in a little after 7, checked my emails, Google Alerts and read through Google Reader to scan the publications I follow. We had a brief meeting to discuss mailing schedules and then I came back to my office to work on 2010-2011 budgets. Since I am not a numbers gal, I had to take frequent breaks so in between budgeting, I read more about Hometown Newsmaker, a news distribution service that would enable us to quickly and accurately send information about our graduates, Dean's List honorees, etc. to hometown papers. I've looked at this service before, but it's become more of a hot topic on the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Communications LIST-SERV throughout the past week. It seems that schools who have used this service are very pleased with it, so I think it's something I might try to work into my budget somehow...
At lunch we had a baby shower for Lindsey, one of our academic advisors. What I love about Cleary is that it is a family environment and special moments in our lives are celebrated by our colleagues.
After the shower, I had a great conversation with a former colleague of mine in regards to social media guidelines and RSS feeds. RSS feeds have been a debate for a while amongst PR practitioners because some feel it is important to put news out there for all to see, while others want to censor everything that goes out to the public. I tend to fall more towards the latter...if you have something to hide, it will come out eventually!
